Video

This guide describes setting up the Video section.

Use the section to add a video to a store page from a URL. With videos, you can share information about your brand with customers, describe products, or welcome customers to your store, etc.

The previous video shows a Video section on a store's homepage. In the section's settings, a video is linked from a YouTube URL. To reduce the width of the section, the Style option is set to Inset. The Play button is selected to start the video.

Set up a video section

To set up a Video section:

  1. Go to Customize theme. At the top of the page, use the dropdown to select a template that contains a Video section.

    Note

    The section can be added into any page, except Checkout and Giftcard pages. To add the section into the current page, select Add section > Video. Refer to Shopify help: Add a section

  2. From the side menu, select Video.

  3. Select a setting described in the following table.

Setting nameDescription
HeadingIn the Heading box, enter text to display as a title (heading) inside the section.
StyleSelect the Style radio buttons to set the section's (width) style to Inset or Full width.
Cover imageUse the following Cover image selector options to set up an image inside the section. The image is shown if the video does not load or play.
  • To add an image, choose Select image, and then upload an image or select an image file from your store's file library.
  • To edit an uploaded image, select Edit in the image selector’s thumbnail preview area. Refer to Edit an image inside a section or block.
  • To replace an image, choose Change > Change image, and then select or upload a new image.
  • To remove an image, select Change > Remove image.
  • Select the Add alt text link, and then enter a brief description of the image into the Image alt text box. Refer to Shopify help: Adding alt text to media
  • To display a cover image from a dynamic source, select Change > Connect dynamic source, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields

Video URLIn the Video URL box, enter a URL for the section's video. YouTube and Vimeo links are accepted.
Aspect ratioSelect the Aspect ratio dropdown to set a size for the video inside the section. The options are Standard - 16:9, Standard - 4:3, and Cinema.
Color > Color schemeUse the Color scheme dropdown to set the section's color scheme to Primary, Secondary, Tertiary or Quaternary. Refer to Colors.
Color > Use gradient for backgroundSelect the checkbox Use gradient for background to turn on/ off using a gradient as the section's background.
Remove sectionSelect Remove section to delete the section from the current page.

Configure a block within a video section

A default Video section contains no blocks. To configure a block inside the section:

  1. Go to Customize theme. At the top of the page, use the dropdown to select a template that contains a Video section.

  2. From the side menu, expand the Video section menu.

  3. To configure an existing block, select the block from the side menu.

    To add a new block, select Add block, choose a block to add, and then select the block you added.

  4. Apply a block setting described in the following table.
